Our Big Write- Float
We have been working on the book Float this term. Float is a beautiful picture book, which starts with a boy creating a paper boat with his Dad.
Our first activity was to make a paper boat, just like the boy. It took a bit of Resilience, some Independence and alot of Determination, but we all made our boats. Some of us even though they were a bit like hats!

We then got on with our writing. We had our sentence stacking lessons and altogether we created our class story. We hope you enjoy it.
Float- Year 4
Fold the paper. Crease the paper. Flip the paper. By the end, the boy had made an amazing boat. (Annie) Thrilled and overjoyed, he dressed quickly and then raced outside onto the steps. (Jenson) As he stared up at the sky, he noticed it was ash-grey. (Hridhaan)
Charging along the rock hard pavement, the wondered about where his boat could sail. Maybe his boat could sail in the Amazon River, or potentially in the River Nile, or in the deep sark sea? (Savannah) The camel-brown fence was as piercing as a sappphire sound-making stormy sea- tumbling furiously. (Jun) Suddenly, the sky turned an ominous shade of black. (Gifted) Bang-boom, bang-boom. The boy was confused. Pit-pat, pit-pat. The boy was shocked. Bang-rumble, bang-rumble. The boy was fearful. (Olivia)
At that monet, rain crashed from the sky. (Lilly) The boy felt he was buried and he couldn't move because the rain was stopping him. (Jenson) Relentless rods of rain fell for what seemed like hours. (Gifted) Finally, the rain stopped and faded, he felt both grateful and comforted. ()
The charcoal-feathered ravens glared like grumpy gorillas, as the boat finally left it's harbour. (Molly) In the puddle: roofs rippled, windoes waved and trees trembled. (Antonio) Suddenly, the boy had a better idea (Gifted) Bounce by bounce. Jump by jump. Hop by hop. The boy stomped through the puddle. As last, he saw a gigantic new stream of water. (Ella)
Leaning into the shallows of the stream, the boat plunged into the roadside stream. (Oscar) All of a sudden, the boat sped away. (Gifted) Would he find his precious, little boat in the water or on ground? (Saee) Disappointed, the boy stood on the cool, midnight street, with nothing but trees wailing. (Evie)
His glistening-gold coat was as bright as a buzzing bumblebee. (Natchu) He couldn't see his boat anywhere. The boy's eyes searched along the street. The boy's feet stepped back and forth. The boy's head turned left and right. (Lyla) "Stop now!" the boy shouted suddenly. (Jaiveer)
to be continued....
Reading
We've made a cracking start to our reading this year. Our first class reading book is Piggy Hero. It's been full of giggles and fun, and we've loved it!
We then moved onto You're a Bad Man Mr Gum. We had so many laughs at this silly book.
Science
We've done lots of practical science this term. We've looked at digestion and food with a practical poo making lesson and a lesson testing how effective brushing teeth is, looking at hard tooth brushes versus soft toothbrushes.
Swimming!
Until February we are going to be going swimming each week at St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre. We can't wait to improve our swimming skills and have some fun in the water!
Vocations Week
We were lucky to have Mr Ramsorrum come into class during Vocations Week to talk to us about being an Engineer. We loved our bridge building challenge, it was really tricky, but we think we rose to the challenge. Thanks for coming in to talk to us about your vocation, and for the amazing badges and stickers!!
