Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

It is lovely being back at school. Our topic this term is 'Towers, Turrets and Tunnels' and we are currently learning all about castles.

Today we went on an amazing  trip to Warwick Castle. We learnt lots of fascinating facts and had lots of fun too!

The Bowman demonstrated his incredible archery skills and made us giggle with his jokes!

We got to meet Zog! He was very friendly!!

In these photos, we are imitating Zog by pretending to capture princesses!

In the Great Hall, we listened to a fascinating talk by a historian and got to hold some weapons.

It was a wonderful trip and well done to the children for representing St Joseph's so brilliantly!

We have had a great time this half term and have been busy learning lots of new things!

In maths we played board games to learn our number bonds.

In RE we read the story of ‘Jonah and the Whale’ and afterwards made our own whales with Jonah inside.

We have been learning about the elements of art such as pattern, texture, tone, rubbings and frottage.

The castle was made by creating patterns and the dragons were created by rubbings and collage (frottage). The children did an incredible job.

In English, we did some drama. You can see us capturing dragons!! This really helped us with our writing.

Our class saint is Mother Teresa. We have been learning all about her and how selfless she was. One of her quotes is, ‘ Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.’   We made our own stained glass hearts to show that we should love everyone.

Finally, we had a visit from Paralympian David Smith MBE.

David really inspired us. He answered all our questions, demonstrated how to play boccia and showed us his gold medal!

We have had another wonderful half term in Year 2! Here are some of our highlights:

The Year of St Joseph Celebration

We all enjoyed the celebration of The Year of St Joseph. We all wore red and each class created something beautiful to represent him. As St Joseph is the Patron Saint of the Universal Church, year 2 made churches.

We also had an assembly and we sang some beautiful hymns and songs in our music celebration with Mrs Burke.

No Pens Wednesday

We had an exciting day by not recording any work (no pens or pencils were used.) Instead we learnt in different ways. We started the day by reading books. Then we used money and practised giving change when we bought toys! Next we planted bullbs. This will support our science lessons as we will observe the flowers growing later in the year. Finally, we had great fun playing musical instruments.

Advent Preparation Day

Our theme was ‘joy’ so half of us made candle decorations to resemble the third candle lit on the Advent Wreath. The rest of the class made Christmas tree decorations. We made our own Advent Wreath and attended the school tree lighting ceremony. This is such an important time of year and it was lovely to prepare for Advent in this way.

We have all made a Bambinelli for Fr Noel to bless at Mass.

Finally, we were filmed performing our Nativity ‘A Wriggly Nativity.’ Please remember to watch it on Mrs Wallace’s YouTube channel. It is simply beautiful!

Australian Adventure or should we say G’Day Mate!?

We are really enjoying our Spring topic.

We are very proud of our Australian artwork

We had a wonderful celebration in school today and learnt all about Mardi Gras. We wore the colours green, purple and yellow and made beautiful masks.

Can you guess who is hiding behind the mask?
